What Is MCT Oil And Why All The Hype?

What is MCT Oil:

You most likely have heard of the keto diet which is currently very popular. This diet has helped bring MCT oil into the limelight. Medium chain triglycerides (MCT), are a type of fat found in palm kernel oil or coconut oil. MCT oil is so popular because it has a very high amount of concentrated MCT’s. It has been said to have many benefits because of the way the body processes these MCT’s (aka fats). But how does the body do this and what exactly are these ‘benefits’?

How MCT Oil Can be a Helpful Supplement:

Can Help Promote Weight Loss

Studies show that consuming MCT oil can be useful when used in conjunction with a weight loss plan

by encouraging satiety for longer after a meal is eaten. It also may increase thermogenesis which literally translates

to ‘heat production’ and is the body’s system of expending energy to produce heat. Thus, the body is expending more energy and burning calories through this process boosted by MCT’s.

Can Boost Energy and May Reduce Fatigue

The keto diet is based on the concept that fats are turned into ketones in your liver and go into your bloodstream to support metabolism and other muscular functions. MCT’s from MCT oil are converted to ketones which can provide this faster energy and help reduce fatigue when working out. Additionally, ketones may help prevent the buildup of lactate which can cause fatigue and soreness in muscles after working out.

May Help With a Healthy Gut

Not many may know this, but MCT oil may help promote a healthy gut biome by promoting healthy gut bacteria and reducing growth of harmful bacteria. MCT oil may be great as an antibacterial in your stomach and anti-fungal.

How to Use:

Start with a small amount to help your stomach become familiar with the increased fat. Start with 1 teaspoon a day and work up to 1 Tablespoon per day. You may be able to get up to 6 Tablespoons throughout the day once you are used to it!

Add to smoothies, coffee or other drinks low in sugar to avoid negating the MCT benefits.
