CBD: What You Should Know Before Buying

Posted by Raquel Pace on 1st Jul 2021

Interested in CBD but feeling overwhelmed at the amount of information available on the internet? Not sure where to start? You’re not alone! In fact, “as many as 57% of Americans think CBD will show up on a drug test”. Do you know if it will or not?

The CBD industry is such a largely unregulated market that it requires consumers to be highly knowledgeable and discerning about the products they buy.

At Sweet Life CBD, one of our main goals is to provide the education necessary for you and anyone you know to feel confident about the products you buy and the benefits CBD has to offer. If you are tired of trying to figure it out on your own- we’ve got you. Don't have time to read this blog? Check out our short infographic for a quick highlight overview of CBD!

What is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol), is a chemical compound derived from the cannabis plant. This compound affects the Endocannabinoid System which helps regulate and balance key bodily functions. Although there is much confusion (and even some skepticism) surrounding CBD, what many may not know is that cannabinoids are actually found in a variety of everyday things like black pepper, broccoli and carrots- cannabis just has the highest concentration of them.

Although our body naturally creates these cannabinoids, they can become depleted throughout life. This can impact quality of life and using CBD can recharge this supply. CBD can have wonderful analgesic properties, aid in anti inflammation, help treat insomnia, help with chronic pain and aid in anxiety reduction.

Are there any legal restrictions surrounding CBD?

Yes, there are a couple to keep in mind when evaluating what kind of CBD product to buy especially if you are a traveler. Within the U.S., TSA states that products with no more than .3% THC are safe to travel with. Because any products that contain more than .3% THC are illegal under federal law, it is extremely important to ensure the CBD product you buy has less than .3% THC. Each batch of products at Sweet Life comes with its own certificate of analysis that states 0% THC and provides the proper labeling on the container to ensure it will be safe to travel with.

Can CBD make you feel “high”?

Short and simple: No. Our CBD does not contain the psychoactive element called THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) which is responsible for that high feeling people report.

Each Sweet Life CBD batch is tested to guarantee it has 0% THC. Some companies source their CBD from hemp- meaning there will be trace amounts of THC left in the CBD, but at Sweet Life we extract the CBD isolate directly from the cannabis plant.

This will answer the first question we asked you in the beginning: will CBD show up on a drug test? With all our products you can rest assured they will not show up on a urine analysis test because we take only the isolate which contains no THC.

Are CBD products habit forming?

Again, the short and sweet answer is: no. CBD is non-addictive and may actually be helpful in treating certain substance use disorders. The World Health Organization has stated that “CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential” and that it “is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile”. This may bring you to your next question...

...How much CBD should I take?

This answer is not as simple as the above two. Everyone is different and depending on their circumstances will need different dosages. As a general rule of thumb- start small and go up from there. Asking yourself a couple questions before taking will help determine what amount works for you.

Firstly, what are you taking the CBD for (anxiety, pain, anti inflammation etc.)? Where in your body are you hoping to see results? CBD accumulates in the body so giving yourself time to absorb and build up levels in your body over a period of days or weeks will be most helpful in seeing results.

After taking, be mindful of how you are feeling, thinking about what your answers are to the questions you asked yourself above and adjust accordingly.

How do I take CBD?

The way you experience CBD will also depend on your method of intake. At Sweet Life we offer three main ways to use CBD.

Capsules:

These are ingested orally and are best absorbed when taken with water. They provide the benefit of a precise dosage and are convenient to take anywhere.

Oils:

We provide this in a glass bottle with a dropper as the cap. You decide how many drops you would like, place under your tongue and hold for a few seconds. Because some people do not like the taste of straight CBD oil, we created different flavors to make it a pleasurable and tasty experience.

Topicals:

We provide this in rub on stick form called Sweet Moves. This provides the benefit of targeted pain relief to a specific area of your body. Our stick soothes, moisturizes your skin and smells of invigorating peppermint. We offer a variety of strengths based on your pain level and needs.
